Nizo made a line of Very quiet running Super-8 cameras that can be used when doing sync dialogue scenes.

These Nizo cameras all have four digit model numbers such as the Nizo 6080, Nizo 6056, Nizo 4080, Nizo 4056, Nizo 3056, Nizo 3048, Nizo 2056, Nizo 2048, Nizo 2036, and perhaps a few more that I have forgotten.

I just discovered that the NiMH 1.2 volt rechargeables don't work in these Nizo cameras. The battery container that came with each of the two cameras I tested states to only use alkaline batteries.

Even though both sets of rechargeables that I tried (Energizer NiMH 2500 milliamps and RayoVAC alkaline rechargeables) metered virtually identical voltages of 8.0 (not under load), the NiMH absolutely would not work no matter which of the two cameras I tried them in and it didn't matter that I switched battery containers either.

As soon as I switched to the alkaline rechargeables, the cameras worked perfectly.
I seem to recall that these Nizo Cameras are sensitive to higher voltages so that leads me to conclude that using RECHARGEABLE ALKALINES ONLY be the way to go.

One of the two cameras I purchased actually came with Alkaline rechargeables in them and perhaps this was one of those quirks that was well known 10 years ago but nobody bothered to post on any of the forums. I've never run across a discussion about what to actually use in these sound Nizo cameras and that's a shame because they may be finicky when it comes to what type of power they require.

My testing did not include NiCAD's, only NiMH and Alkaline rechargeables, but the labeling on the battery holder and inside the battery handle of ONE of the cameras states... "nur NC-akku only".

I don't know what that means, but on the battery compartment it states... "Nur alkali - Mangan" followed by the English version... "Alkaline Manganese Batteries Recommended".

If nur means use, that would mean use NC-akku only.... but what does the "NC" mean, Nicads???

It also says to use 1.5 volt batteries on the top of the battery holder. So the ONLY two choices for these Nizo Super-8 four digit model number sound cameras are disposable alkalines or rechargeble alkalines, and I would suggest going with the rechargeables since these cameras are known to be touchy when it comes to voltage. New, fresh non-rechargeable alkalines might have too much voltage in them.

<font size="2" face="verdana, sans-serif">In your opinion, are these Nizos quieter than the Canon 814/1014XL-S?

As you recall, I have the 814XL-S and it's pretty quiet. But if one of these sound Nizos is even better, I might consider getting one.

Also, good info on the battery situation. Very interesting.

Nizo's are definitely quieter than the Canons.

The Elmo 1012-xls is pretty quiet also, probably in between the Nizo's and the Canons.
